What it Takes to be an Online Entrepreneur

by | Sep 27, 2021

So you’re here because you want to be your own boss, huh? Okay. But it’s likely not going to be what you think, and we’re warning you now that it’s not going to be easy.

It’s definitely possible to become an online entrepreneur, and if there’s one place where you’ll actually hear the truth about how it’s here at Joey Matterhorn.

So what does it take to be an online entrepreneur? There are many things, but this list will hit on some of the most important, personal, and foundational traits. Take a deep breath, settle in, and clear your mind, because today is the day you see if you have what it takes to change your life, and start working for yourself.

What Does It Really Mean to be an Online Entrepreneur?

The most crucial word in the phrase “online entrepreneur” isn’t online… it’s an entrepreneur. You’re going to be the one calling the shots, for better or for worse. If you’re looking to be a real business owner, you’re not going to be okay with settling for “just enough” or be happy with “getting by.”

As an online entrepreneur, you need to have an unbeatable spirit, and a passion to keep improving. You have to understand going in that you never want to be someone who settles. The buck stops with you, so with each milestone, you need to celebrate for a short time, but then look around for ways to improve your business and expand it. You’ll always be taking stock of where you are, and rather than camping out, you’ll be considering how you can leverage your current position to get to a new and better one.

One of the benefits of starting your business out online is that your initial investment will typically be less than a traditional business owner. Use this to your advantage, and don’t be afraid to take measured risks.

You’re an entrepreneur first, and someone who “makes money online” second– don’t ever forget that, and you’ll always stay ahead of the curve.

Don’t Be Fooled By Fake Gurus

Another thing you need to have as an online entrepreneur is the ability to sniff out a phony. There are a lot of people on the web that are lining up to tell you how you can make six figures online with “only a laptop.” They brag about how they sit in coffee shops, or they’ll show you self-shot videos of themselves on the beach earning “passive income.”

But then the sales pitch comes. They promise that they’ll teach you how they do it if you buy their online course. And guess what, it’s normally $700, has $3,000 worth of material in it, and today and today only, it’s discounted to $269.

That’s how they make their money. Selling false hope wrapped in a thin online “course” to people like you. The course will typically be full of general information, and– surprise– more things you can buy from them to “be successful.”

Don’t buy into the “passive income” lifestyle, it’s a lie, and it’s not the true path of an online entrepreneur like yourself.

Being the Boss Doesn’t Mean Less Work

When you make the decision to become an online entrepreneur, you have you build yourself a schedule that you’ll stick to consistently. This is even more important for those who have other responsibilities such as a spouse, children, or other commitments like a day job.

Choose what days you’ll be working, and what hours (minimum), and write that down. Then keep a log of when you actually work to hold yourself accountable. Consider starting out with one hour per weekday, and two hours per Saturday. Then take Sundays off, because everyone needs to recharge and “sharpen the ax”.

You need to show up even when it isn’t glamorous or fun. It can be easy in the beginning to get a lot of work done in the “dream phase”, when you get to imagine how amazing everything is going to be, and brainstorm. Where most people give up is in the “grindstone phase” where they’re in the thick of things, and it’s a matter of doing nitty-gritty, hard work.

Don’t give up, one of the strongest traits you can have as an entrepreneur is just showing up and doing what needs to be done.

Set Goals, Big and Small

It’s important that you set goals. If not, you’ll eventually feel listless, and won’t have a clear direction. Without setting goals you’re also shooting your schedule in the foot. If you have distinct objectives, you’ll have something to focus your time on when it comes time to work.

There are a lot of effective methods for setting and completing goals, but here are a couple of things to keep in mind.

  1. Set Large and Small Goals

If all of your goals are lofty and long-term, you won’t ever feel like you’re making progress. By setting a smaller, short-term goal, you can feel like you’re getting things done and can start to build momentum. Achieving your smaller goals keeps fuel in your tank, and will help you stay confident as you work toward the more long-term ones.

  1. Set SMART Goals

Don’t set goals flippantly. Decide where you want your company to be, and then decide what it would take to get there. Once you identify the things that you’re looking to achieve, use the classic SMART system. When a goal is SMART it is:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Realistic
  • Timely

By using the SMART principles, you’ll be able to move from milestone to milestone as an online entrepreneur.

Find a Real Mentor

One of the biggest mistakes that people make when they undertake the journey of becoming an online entrepreneur is they try to do it alone.

There are common, costly mistakes that you can’t afford to make (and shouldn’t have to). Sure, you can learn the hard way and hope you make it through the challenges you face, or you can find a mentor you can trust to show you the ropes. Not only will this protect you from making oversights and errors, but it will also help you reach success more quickly.

Finding a genuine mentor you can trust isn’t easy. As we discussed there is no shortage of fake gurus. You need someone who has proven they know how to be an online entrepreneur with their own personal, real results.

That’s where Joey Matterhorn comes in. Joey is a real online business owner and entrepreneur who has earned his success through hard work.

Let Joey teach you the methods that he used to be successful. What are you waiting for? Get started now, and change your life.
